Kenya held Leather Fair in Nairobi

The Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) in collaboration with the World Bank through Deloitte is hosting a leather fair to promote the Kenyan leather sector in the world market.

The fair was taking place at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (K.I.C.C) Nairobi, from 15th May to 17th May 2012. It attracted local investors who were showcasing various exhibits from across the leather value chain. The event created awareness and created platform for both local and international players, keen on following developments in the leather sector in Kenya.

Cobblers training in full gear

The highly anticipated cobblers training finally kicked off on 16th April at the Animal Health and Industrial Training Institute (AHITI). The activity which targets cobblers from all the counties in Kenya was sponsored by World Bank through Deloitte and will see the participants being taken through the various procedures in shoe design, choice of leather materials, tools and machinery, as well as safety precautions during the design process among other relevant issues. The training will take place in two weeks where the trainees will report to AHITI for their first week of training and conclude their training at TPCSI during a ceremony that will be officiated by the Ag.Sec/CEO, KLDC. This is one of the ventures of KLDC in collaboration with Government and donor partners to ensure that the leather subsector attains the next phase of growth which is characterized by processing of leather into high-quality finished products for maximum returns.

   

Rwandese benchmarking with Kenyan Leather Enterprises

Rwandese Delegation visited kenya on a benchmarking mission on Leather Enterprises from 20th March to 24th March 2012. The delegation toured various tanneries, Footwear factories, Leather good factories, KMC Athi River and TPCSI Thika.

   

Relaunch of Kenya Leather Development Council

KLDC was relaunched as a state corporation on 16th of February 2012 at our offices, Riverside Drive by the Minister of Livestock Development, Hon. Mohammed Kuti. KLDC started as a Semi Autonomous Goverment Agency in the year 2010 and later in August 2011 as a fully fledged State Corporation. The main mandate being of bringing harmony, direction and coordination to the leather sector through formulation of relevant policies critical to steer the sub-sector to global competitiveness.
